2004-02-24 - 8:37 p.m. I finally had a great clinical experience today. This wouldn't ordinarily be news except for the fact that I have been in nursing school and going to clinicals since August. Today was a "community health" day and I was assigned to work at what I thought would be a free clinic. It was actually a non-profit clinic but there are paying customers and non-paying customers as well as medicaid and medicare customers. The doctor also gives out tons and tons of free samples of meds to his patients. I loved every minute of this experience. I got there and the nurse showed me how to fill out the charts and within an hour I was calling patients back and doing their vitals and actually writing in the charts! It was just like working in a doctor's office! Well, it was working in a doctor's office...but anyway. When the patients slowed down, I got to schedule tests and then I cornered the Pfizer drug reps who were 6'6" and 6'7" tall (which impressed me since I am almost 6' myself and never usually look up at anyone) and made them explain their drugs and how they work to me. That will definitely help for pharmacology! And the greatest part is that I get to go back tomorrow!
